LITTLE FISTS

My parents ensured our photo-albums burgeoned with holiday, birthday and Christmas scenes. By Christmas 1994 the chronology was broken; likewise the family unit. Little Fists explores the finality implied in this discontinuance of visual biography. My self-portraits are autobiographical yet do not feign reality. They are emblematic of emergent memories, in place of those I am unable to return to, and allowed me to explore memories and fantasies of my maturation. Through the process of re-enacting and subverting aspects of my childhood I manipulated the inter-relationship between memory and fantasy and in doing so confirmed the possibilities for active involvement in the figuration of memory.
